Trimium VPN now supports SSTP and OpenVPN!

Trimium is proud to announce support for Microsoft SSTP and also OpenVPN.

Microsoft SSTP

Microsoft's SSTP protocol (Secure Sockets Tunneling Protocol) allows VPN traffic to be encrypted and travel through HTTPS. Appearing as encrypted HTTPS traffic, it is nearly impossible for ISPs (China, Iran, Russia, etc.) to detect that the traffic is VPN. SSTP thus allows you to access content that would normally be blocked in certain countries.

Download the SSTP certificate file here. Import the certificate into your Windows client by using File Explorer. Locate the downloaded certificate file. Right click on the file and click "Install Certificate". Then click "Open" if prompted. Select "Local Machine" when prompted by the Certificate Import Wizard. Click "Next". Select "Place all certificates in the following store". Click "Browse". Click on "Trusted Root Certification Authorities". Click "OK". Click "Next". Click "Finish". Now create a new SSTP VPN client in Windows Settings and use the username and password (see above). That's it!

OpenVPN

OpenVPN is an open source VPN system. With OpenVPN and an ASUS router running Merlin firmware you can selectively control which devices go through the VPN. OpenVPN can also work with DD-WRT, Tomato, pfSense, MikroTik and many other routers.

You can use OpenVPN client or almost any computer / mobile phone platform!

Existing Trimium users can download the OpenVPN configuration file here. This file includes OpenVPN parameters and the CA (Certificate Authority) certificate. Use your existing Trimium username/password along with the OpenVPN configuration file. There are no server or client certificates to import which makes set up easy!

To see a demo of how to use Trimium VPN with OpenVPN please watch this video: https://youtu.be/azCBSo_r4XE

If you plan to use the Redirect Internet Traffic option in R-MERLIN ASUS routers to selectively route devices make sure that once you set up your device table, you disconnect from the VPN and re-connect. This will ensure that your policy routing table takes effect.

Any questions? Please contact support at trimiumvpn@gmail.com - thank you.

Watch NETFLIX from Australia, Canada, Africa and anywhere else on Earth!

INTRODUCTION:

Do you live in Australia or Canada or another part of the world and would like to watch Netflix (US catalog and other countries), Hulu, Amazon video and/or other USA streaming content? If so, TRIMIUM VPN is for you. TRIMIUM gives you a clean USA IP address that you can use to access USA streaming services.

TRIMIUM also offers optional access to other countries. Currently offering Canada, UK and Japan. Please ask to get the latest details.

TRIMIUM also offers access to other services such as BBC iPlayer, Zattoo and more while providing access to USA services. This is accomplished using Smart DNS servers which operate on the back end of TRIMIUM servers. With Smart DNS built-in, you can watch Netflix USA and BBC iPlayer or Zattoo at the same time without disabling VPN.

TRIMIUM works with almost all devices. Microsoft Windows (7, 8 and 10), Apple iMac, Apple iPad, Apple iPhone, Apple TV, Android phones, Smart Televisions, Blu-ray players, Roku, Xbox, Sony Playstation, Amazon Fire TV and more!

If your device has an app for Netflix or other streaming services, TRIMIUM will work!

In order for TRIMIUM to work properly, your device must support VPN or you will need to install an inexpensive VPN-enabled router on your network so that the device can route through it. A secondary router is very easy and inexpensive to install. TRIMIUM will provide you all the details needed to get up and running quickly.

TRIMIUM is not software. It is a VPN service that routes you to a working USA (or another country) end-point. You do not need to install software on your devices.

TRIMIUM is not a DNS service (like Getflix or Unblock-US). DNS services are unreliable and usually do not work. TRIMIUM transports your network to a USA end-point (or to other countries) so you can enjoy virtually all of the streaming services offered. Your connection will appear to be coming from the USA (or Canada, or Japan or any of the current regions supported by TRIMIUM.)

HOW TO GET STARTED QUICKLY WITH FREE TRIAL OFFER:

1) Send an e-mail to trimiumvpn@gmail.com and indicate that you would like a VPN for streaming video.
2) Within a few minutes you will receive an e-mail auto-response message. It will contain more details on what you will need. Follow the directions to get started. If you do not see this message, please check your mail client's "Junk Mail" folder(s).

That is it! Within 24 hours you will receive an e-mail from with your own username and password and server settings (PPTP and L2TP server). You will also receive step-by-step instructions on how to set up TRIMIUM with your device(s).

TRIMIUM can help you set up your router for whole house/office access to streaming services. TRIMIUM can also help you set up a split tunneling system. Just ask when you send us an e-mail.

The 14 day trial is absolutely free and requires no payment at all. After the trial period is over, TRIMIUM will contact you and you can decide to continue to use the service or cancel. If you wish to continue using the service, the cost is $9.95 per month USD.

Again, to get started, end an e-mail to trimiumvpn@gmail.com and indicate that you would like a VPN for streaming video.

THE DREADED 'PROXY' / 'UNBLOCKER' ERROR MESSAGE:

Streaming services that serve the US audience only allow access to their content from valid USA IP addresses. In some cases, even valid USA IP addresses are dis-allowed access to the streaming service. For overseas users, the only known way to appear to have a valid USA IP address is to use a smart DNS or VPN service that is not black-listed as being a proxy or unblocker.

Have you tried other smart DNS and/or VPN providers and find that you still continue to get the dreaded "Whoops, something went wrong... You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy." and other weird error messages that leave you with not being able to watch the content you want?

Figuring out which service works and how to set it up and switching servers is not convenient. In some cases, it is nearly impossible.

THE CAUSE:

Netflix and other streaming media providers have adapted very aggressive methods to detect your IP location. They use the known location of your IP address to deny access to their USA content if they determine your IP address is either located outside of the USA or within a data center where VPN and smart DNS companies operate. In some cases, valid USA IP addresses are blocked. TRIMIUM believes that Netflix is engaging in wrongful "denial of service" policy against their lawful paying customers.

THE SOLUTION:

To circumvent Netflix's attempts to block you requires some very creative methods. TRIMIUM has developed highly proprietary and effective techniques to prevent geo-location detection.

With TRIMIUM you can watch Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV rentals, BBC iPlayer and more as well as listen to Pandora, Spotify and other streaming services.

There is no software to install! Other programs like HOLA and software by other VPN providers slow down your computer and in some cases, use your computer as an exit node for other people!

EASE OF USE:

TRIMIUM does not require any software installation. You simply configure a new VPN connection in your operating system -- Windows, Mac, iPhone/iPad and Android devices. That's it!

You can even set up an inexpensive Ethernet router as a VPN client (without flashing!)

Make sure that you uninstall or disable any other VPN software and/or smart DNS settings. Your settings should be default as suggested by your ISP.

FREE AND EASY TRIAL:

We are confident that you will love our service. We offer a free trial of our service without a signup or payment! Simply send an email to trimiumvpn@gmail.com and we will respond to you with a username/password to use. That's it!

So give TRIMIUM a try today and see for yourself.

Quick Start - How to set up "Split Tunneling" for Apple TV, Roku and other streaming devices

HOW TO USE TRIMIUM WITH YOUR DEVICE:

TRIMIUM works with virtually all devices. These devices can be classified into two categories: (1) devices with built-in VPN client and (2) devices that do not support built-in VPN.

Devices that support (have a built-in) VPN client mode include: Microsoft Windows (7, 8 and 10), Apple iMac, iPad, iPhone, Android phones and tablets and some routers such as ASUS, MikroTik and pfSense (and more). You can install TRIMIUM VPN in the device's VPN client application and be up and running very quickly.

Devices that do not support (do not have a built-in) VPN client mode include: Roku, AppleTV, Sony Playstation, Xbox, NVIDIA Shield, Amazon Fire TV (and more).

For devices that do not support (do not have built-in) VPN, you must connect these devices to a router on your network that is capable of running in VPN client mode. If your router can be configured to run as a VPN client, then all of your traffic will use the VPN. There are advantages and disadvantages to this set up.

The advantage is that all the devices will be on the VPN. All devices will be in the "region" that the VPN is running on. The disadvantage is that VPN slows down your internet speed and thus some devices like your computer will appear to run a little slower on the internet. Perhaps you do not want your computer on a VPN and you would only want streaming devices on a VPN.

If you want to have both, then you need to set up a split tunnel system on your network.

TRIMIUM recommends the use of a dual-router set up for maximum flexibility and ease-of-use.

A dual router configuration is easy to set up. All you do is add another router to your network. See this diagram. http://imgur.com/a/bMKcK You will add the "orange" router to your existing "blue" router.

SO WHY DOESN'T TRIMIUM OFFER SMART DNS?

If you have used a smart DNS service before, you are probably used to just changing the DNS IP addresses inside the streaming device or your router. Setting the DNS in the device or router tells the device to use the smart DNS provider's DNS servers to direct connections to Netflix and other geo-blocked services to their web proxy / forwarding server. While this is easy to set up and use, it does not work reliably anymore. Almost ALL smart DNS companies are STRUGGLING to keep working with Netflix. Some of them have actually given up and quit. As a result, you get the dreaded "proxy detected" error message.

A VPN service requires a VPN client somewhere on your network -- either on the device you are using (such as an iPad, Windows PC or android tablet) or at the router level.

Setting up a split VPN tunnel at the router level gives some of your devices access to the VPN and allows other devices to use your regular internet. Your streaming devices can use the VPN only and your other devices that do not need streaming can use your regular internet service for faster speed.

To set up a split VPN service, you need two routers. Your existing router (we will call it primary) and an additional router (we will call it secondary). Please look at this diagram: http://imgur.com/a/bMKcK This image shows (in blue) your existing network (typical for most users). Your modem/WiFi router (primary router) is connected to your ISP and provides an IP address for your locality. The second router is shown in orange (secondary router). This router connects to an open LAN port on your primary router. You can configure the secondary router to use the internet on the primary router and establish a VPN to TRIMIUM. Once the VPN is successfully established, any device connected to the secondary router (orange part of this image) will be on a USA end-point (or other country of choice) through TRIMIUM.

So basically all you do is add an inexpensive router to your existing network. That is all.

Examples of good known working routers are Asus RT-N66U, Asus RT-AC66U, Asus RT-AC68U, Asus RT-AC87U, Asus RT-AC88U, Asus RT-AC3200. TRIMIUM highly recommends the use of the Asus routers as hey have a very easy-to-use VPN client built in which works perfectly with TRIMIUM and other VPN services. The ASUS line of routers is also recommended for those who wish to watch different regions (thus requiring different VPN profiles). The ASUS router does an excellent job of allowing multiple VPN profiles to be kept in it's menu system.

Other routers are supported as well. Many routers such as the TP-LINK TPTDWN840N support PPTP and L2TP without any software upgrades and will work well with TRIMIUM.

QUICK START FOR THE IMPATIENT:

For the technically informed people, here is the summary of how to hook things up. Connect your computer to the secondary router. Go to the set up screen. Rename the WiFi to something you can recognize such as VPNWiFi. Then go to the LAN set up screen. Set the LAN IP address to 192.168.90.1. Save and reboot. Connect the secondary router's WAN port to a LAN port on the primary router. Make sure you get working internet before proceeding. Then configure VPN mode in the secondary router. If using ASUS, go to VPN client and add a profile. Click connect. Go to www.tracemyip.org and you should see a USA IP address. You are done! If using a router such as TP-LINK, go to the WAN port set up. Change from DHCP to L2TP. Fill out the server IP address, username and password. Leave everything to default. Click apply/save. Wait a minute or two and then go to www.tracemyip.org and you should see a USA IP address. You are done! If not, go back to the WAN set up. Change to PPTP and fill out the server IP address, username and password and try again. If this doesn't work, check your settings (server address, username and password.) In some cases, older routers do not work well in this mode. Obtain a newer router or get an ASUS.

DETAILED STEP BY STEP SPLIT-TUNNELING INSTRUCTIONS FOR EVERYONE:

Before you begin, you need to obtain a free trial account with TRIMIUM. Send an e-mail to trimiumvpn@gmail.com. In a few minutes you will receive an automatic response to your message. (Please check your Spam/Junk mail folders if you do not receive a response in 5 minutes.) Follow all the directions that message and (if approved) you will receive your own account name and password. You MUST do this before proceeding.

When you receive your username and password, continue and follow these directions:

1) Connect to your primary router using a device that has a web browser (computer or phone or tablet) and go to www.tracemyip.org and write down what IP address you are assigned by your ISP.

2) Look at the back ofyour primary router (the router you already have that is connected to your ISP). You should see ports on the back (they should be labelled LAN). Some of these ports may be connected by an Ethernet cable to devices. Locate one of those unused LAN ports.

3) Connect the "Internet" or "WAN" port of your secondary router to one of the unused LAN ports of the primary router. The "Internet" or "WAN" port is usually identified with a yellow color. In older routers it may be blue or the same color as LAN ports. This port is usually separated physically from the other LAN ports. Make sure you properly identify these ports.

4) Using a computer or phone or tablet, sign into the administration page of your secondary router. Set up the WiFi name to something like "VPNWiFi" or something you can easily identify.

5) Verify that you have working internet using the secondary router. (You can connect by Ethernet cord on the LAN port of the secondary router or to the VPNWiFi signal of the secondary router).

If you do not have working internet, you'll have to check your work. If you run into a problem, usually it is caused by the fact that the LAN address of the secondary router is the same as the LAN address of the primary router. If that is the case, use the administration pages of the secondary router to change the LAN address. (Usually routers will come with a default address of 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.2.1). Change it to 192.168.90.1.

6) If you have an ASUS router (or any router that supports VPN client), go to the VPN client set up page and set up a new profile for the VPN client. Use the information provided by Trimium that includes your username/password and server and input this information in the VPN client setup screen of your router. Save the setting and connect. Your router should show the VPN client as "connected." If not, go back and check to see if you have made an error inputting your username/password and server settings. If it shows connected, skip to step 11.

7) If you do NOT have an ASUS router (or any router that supports VPN client), continue reading: Once you have verified working internet through the secondary router, go to the administration page of the router and look for the WAN set up page. The WAN port by default is set to DHCP.

8) Change the WAN port default of DHCP to PPTP. The screen will flash for a second and you will see new options.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you see options for USERNAME, PASSWORD AND SERVER IP ADDRESS/HOSTNAME then this will work.

If you DO NOT SEE these 3 options, change from PPTP to L2TP. If you see options for USERNAME, PASSWORD AND SERVER IP ADDRESS/HOSTNAME then this will work.

If you DO NOT SEE the 3 options, then unfortunately this router will not work. You will need to find another router that has these options.

9) You only need to enter your username, password and server address. Use the information you received from TRIMIUM to fill out those fields. Make sure you input this information CORRECTLY. If you make a mistake, you will not see any error messages. You will lose connection to the internet on the secondary router however.

10) Click on Apply and/or Save. If you do not get any error messages, that is good news. In about 30 seconds your secondary router will be on the VPN.

11) Verify that your IP address has changed. Again, go to www.tracemyip.org and see what your IP address is showing as now. It should be different than from step #1 above. If the IP address changed, then the VPN is working. Proceed to next step. If not, go back and check your work.

12) Now connect your Apple TV or Roku or other streaming device to the secondary router (either by Ethernet cable or WiFi). Try to use a streaming service like Netflix. See if you can access the content you are looking for.

CONCLUSION

While this procedure is more difficult than using a smart DNS service, you will find that it is much more reliable for bypassing geo-restriction/blocks.

With a split tunneling system like this, some of your devices can use the VPN and others can use your regular internet.

You MUST have an account with TRIMIUM to use the service. Send an e-mail to trimiumvpn@gmail.com - you will receive an automatic response. Reply to that message and you will receive your own account name and password. You MUST do this before proceeding.

If you would rather buy a router with VPN client built in, the following routers are recommeded: Asus RT-N66U, Asus RT-AC66U, Asus RT-AC68U, Asus RT-AC87U, Asus RT-AC88U, Asus RT-AC3200.

Other routers are supported as well. Many routers such as the TP-LINK TPTDWN840N support PPTP and L2TP without any software upgrades and will work well with TRIMIUM.

If you run into any problems that you can not solve on your own, please send an email to: trimiumvpn@gmail.com and help will be provided.
